About
Diisign.com in English is a forum for works and activities of designers, architects and artists who are dealing with contemporary issues. The magazine attempts to collect the most influential makers of the day. The object is to create a dialogue within the art and design community and present the intimate outlook on an artist’s work.
One distinguishing feature of the posts is that most are written in response to a firsthand experience with the artists and designers. There is an eclectic range of subjects and works, however the focus is on the process of making work and the dialogues that ensue. The posts come from visits to galleries, discussions with curators, intimate lectures or interviewing the artist in home or studio.
The English branch of the site began after a series of fruitful design conversations between Marc Beekenkamp and Caroline James, respective authors of the French and English editions of diisign.com. The two met at Maison&Objet, the definitive home design show in Paris. Soon they realized a dialogue could be leveraged given their various perspectives. Marc is based in Paris and has created a sound platform at diisign.com as an engineer and designer, whereas Caroline is living in New York and carries experience in art and architecture.
Caroline James grew up in Washington, DC and studied Italian and Art at Princeton University. She has lived in Italy, Japan and Thailand, gaining a variety of design perspectives. In Bangkok, she worked at a product design company creating contemporary designs in slow-craft techniques. Currently, she lives in New York as an artist and strategist at Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Caroline is pursuing a degree in Architecture, where she is looking forward to learn the tools to make useful and thoughtful material interventions in the world.
Marc Beekenkamp is a graduate in Master of Science of the National School of Arts and Industry of Strasbourg, France (ENSAIS/INSA Strasbourg), Marc has been developing his skills in innovation, design and marketing within the automotive industry since 2005.
